Innovative solutions for 3-D imaging

Celloptic developed a new, exciting holographic principle called FINCH, which is the acronym for Fresnel INcoherent Correlation Holography.  FINCH is a laserless single beam holographic technique, highlighted and described in Laser Focus World, in which 3-D images can be captured in one snapshot.  FINCH can be used in a wide variety of life science and engineering fields in which 3-D image data is obtained with a digital camera, extending the information into the 3rd dimension. In conventional imaging, information out of the plane of focus in the 3rd dimension is lost.  With FINCH, all planes in the imaged volume are captured and are in focus.  Thus, in addition to 3-D photography, a wide variety of other applications are possible.  FINCH has been applied to fluorescence microscopy in which high resolution images are obtained at all planes from just one hologram.  In addition to microscopic and macroscopic imaging, it has been recently suggested that FINCH technology can be used for telescopic imaging and to obtain images at a resolution beyond the optical limit.  In fact, it is envisioned that FINCH could be applied to any imaging application in the electromagnetic spectrum.

The company has also received two U.S. patents for wide-field 2-photon microscopy that, for the first time, enables 3-D multi-photon imaging without laser scanning. This advance greatly simplifies, speeds and reduces the cost of multi-photon microscopy, allowing the acquisition of multi-photon images with a widefield microscope.
